It’s National Writing Day!
Check out #247challenge hashtag on social media to see 24 word stories that have been written for the occasion. Why not have a go at writing your own? Below is my attempt, inspired by a number of school visits where the children have been quick to talk about the technical side of writing without touching on why a story has been written, what it’s trying to say or how it makes them feel. A study by Lambirth (2018) showed that children assess their creative writing mainly through technical skill or compliance (for instance, whether it neat) rather than through questions around creativity, ownership or whether their stories give them voice. This seems to me to be very sad!
One day, CRAFTY, CALCULATING men released CURRICULUM POISON.
‘I loved your story,’ said the girl.
‘Lots of ADJECTIVES!’
BLOODLESS, BREATHLESS, the storyteller died.
